Life Weary, Never old

Oil on Canvas

I have painted a portrait of my father, Roger Wimhurst who I have captured in a rather grey mood.  Prior to his retirement, my father was an officer in the Royal Australian Air Force for 27 years who went onto study a degree in environmental science and worked for the Department of Defence for nine years. My father is an avid bonsai enthusiast and we call him the garden sage. When he sat for this painting, he was in a grey mood after having a slight disagreement with my Mother, Bernadette – who clearly won.

This painting won first place in the Council on the Aging (COTA) Silver is Gold Art Competition in 2021.

Pictured here with my father after receiving the award.
