Mahjong game

Oil on canvas

76.2 x 61 cm

The Mahjong Game captures an intimate family moment during a holiday, where my husband, Danny, and our daughter, Victoria, are fully immersed in a spirited game of mahjong. The scene unfolds outdoors, with the warm, sunlit setting enhancing the sense of relaxation and timelessness. Danny sits attentively at the wooden table, while Victoria, in her characteristic style, is perched cross-legged right on top of it—a playful display of her enthusiasm for the game.

By positioning my own mahjong tiles in the foreground, I aimed to draw the viewer directly into the scene, transforming them into a silent participant in the game. This perspective invites the viewer to share in the tension and concentration, as if they are seated at the table alongside us. The rich textures and layered brushstrokes of oil paint capture both the intensity of the game and the joyful ease of a family moment shared outdoors. Through this piece, I celebrate the simple yet profound moments that connect us, inviting others to glimpse into the warmth and spirit of our family life.
